BTS Named Honorary Guests of Bogotá Ahead of Latin American Tour
BTS have been designated honorary guests of Bogotá, Colombia’s capital, ahead of the start of their Latin American tour. The group’s label, BigHit Music, announced the recognition on Friday, describing it as an official honor from the city’s mayor.
The title was granted to the septet in recognition of its role in raising the international profile of Korean music and culture since its 2013 debut. The mayor also cited BTS’ influence on younger generations, according to the label.
Bogotá gives the honorary guest title to prominent visitors whose work has contributed to citizens’ welfare or urban development. The honor may recognize contributions across fields including politics, public service, the arts, sports, science and education. BTS’ designation places the group among visitors recognized by the city for their contributions, with the announcement coming before the tour’s Latin American opening.
