BTS Peru Concerts Projected to Bring $19 Million in Tourism Benefits

BTS brought more than 150,000 fans to Lima for three concerts at Estadio San Marcos on Oct. 7, 9 and 10. The shows were part of the group’s ongoing “Arirang” world tour, and marked its first performances in Peru since its 2013 debut. BigHit Music reported that approximately 151,500 people attended the concerts.

Peru’s tourism ministry forecast that the events would produce around 25.1 billion won, or $19 million, in tourism-related economic benefits. The attendance figure was also substantially higher than the ministry’s advance estimate of 50,000 visitors to the capital for the concerts.

During one performance, the members addressed the long wait before their first visit to Peru. V also marked Hangeul Day, a Korean public holiday celebrating the creation of the Korean alphabet, by wearing a specially designed T-shirt with handwritten messages. The shirt’s front featured the host city’s name and V’s real name, Kim Tae-hyung, in Korean.
