aespa’s Karina Tries Surfing in Malibu and Remembers f(x)’s “Hot Summer”

aespa’s Karina has tried surfing for the first time in Malibu, California. In photos shared on social media on October 10, she appears in a black wetsuit with a surfboard and receives instruction while sitting on her board. She also described the outing as a new experience and drew attention to the location.

The beach brought f(x)’s 2011 song “Hot Summer” to mind. The track includes a lyric mentioning Malibu Beach, and Karina said the coastline helped her understand why it was referenced. She also noted how the sun lit up the waves. f(x) released the song when Karina was 11; she later debuted with aespa in 2020.

Karina added playful captions to her surfing photos. While holding a bodyboard, she teased herself for suddenly looking serious, and she used a line from an aespa song while waiting for larger waves. After riding one successfully, she joked that she had fallen in a way that reminded her of Patrick Star from SpongeBob SquarePants, so she left that part out of the image.
