Stray Kids Say They Did Not Submit Music for the 2027 Grammys
Stray Kids will not be represented in the submissions for the 2027 Grammy Awards, according to a brief statement from their label, JYP. The label said the group had not submitted any music for consideration. Neither the statement nor the group gave a reason for the decision, so it is unclear whether it is connected to the Grammys’ new Asian Pop Music Performance category.
The category, set to debut at the 2027 awards, will recognize artistic excellence in Asian pop music from Asian markets. Eligible entries must make meaningful use of at least one Asian language. BTS previously announced that they would not submit work to the same awards, saying they wanted music to be appreciated beyond regional and language divisions. Some critics have expressed concern that a separate category could limit consideration of Asian artists in broader award categories.
Recording Academy chief Harvey Mason Jr said the organization had heard both criticism and support for the new category, and that it would proceed as planned. The 2027 ceremony is scheduled for February 7. Submissions opened July 7 and closed August 28. Stray Kids released their album “This and That” in August and recently became the first K-pop band to headline Rock in Rio.
